Established in September of 2004 as the economic development office for the City of Kamloops, Venture Kamloops Business Development Society is governed by a eleven-member board of directors which included 2 councilors.  The members serve for a 5-year term.  They are empowered to respond quickly to new opportunities, enabling the undertaking of new initiatives, and attracting direct financial involvement from other levels of government and/or the private sector.

Peter Casement -
Rocky Mountaineer, Retired

 

Peter Casement was born and raised in Vancouver.  He and his wife Nancy have been married for 37 years and they have two sons, Michael and Chris.  Peter worked for CP Air/Canadian Airlines for 30 years where he was Director of Airports for Western Canada, working out of Calgary.  Over the years he has lived in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver before moving to downtown Kamloops and joining Rocky Mountaineer Vacations as Vice President, Operations, 9 years ago.  Rocky Mountaineer brings approximately 90,000 guests into Kamloops during the summer months.  Their entire maintenance operation works out of a 22 acre facility on the KIB.  70 Maintenance and Operations employees work out of the Kamloops operation on a yearly basis with an additional 60 employees working at the Dinner Theatre during the season.

Paula Presta was born and raised in Kamloops. For the past 13 years, she has worked at KPMG and is currently a senior manager working with small and large businesses providing audit and non-audit services including business and taxation advisory. Paula has considerable business experience having worked with KPMG in Vancouver and London, UK with various companies primarily in the retail and communication industries. She returned to Kamloops in June of 2008 to settle with her husband Pete who immigrated from Australia and their son Luca. Paula is an active member with various community organizations and is a member of Daybreak Rotary.

Fiona Chan - BDC Bank 

Fiona Chan is the Branch Manager of the Business Development of Canada (BDC), Kamloops Branch. She has served in various roles with BDC including Senior Auditor, Operations; Manager, Major Accounts; and Senior Manager Loans. In the past, she was the Vice President, Commercial Team Head with Bank of America (Asia) Ltd. in Hong Kong. Active in the community, Ms. Chan is an appointed member to the Thompson Rivers University Board of Governors; and the President-elect of the Kamloops West Rotary Club. Previously, she was a former member and Chair with the University College of the Caribou Foundation, and a former Director and Treasurer with the Kamloops Symphony Society. Ms. Chan holds her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Western Ontario.

John O'Fee - Councilor, City of Kamloops 

 

Third term city councillor John O'Fee was born and raised in Kamloops and attended Norkam, UCC and the University of BC where he completed degrees in Commerce and Law.  A practicing lawyer in Kamloops, John has also served as a school trustee including three years as school board chair.  In his role of city councillor, John serves as president to the Kamloops Airport Society, a Director of Venture Kamloops, a TNRD director, and member of both the city and regional district audit committess.  John has also served the past ten years as a director and former annual campaign chair for the Thompson Rivers University foundation which is dedicated to raising scholarship and bursary money for deserving students.  John and his wife Daniela have two children.

Paul is the Director of Application Development at iCompass Technologies. His focus is on overseeing the development of the company's applications. Paul’s divers experience and background includes serving as a lecturer of Computing, a development manager with a large county council in the UK and as a college manager in the UK. His overall experience in the technology sector is approaching 20 years. Paul recently emigrated from the UK. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (Based in Computing) and Post Graduate teaching qualifications. He is actively involved in the community and serves on the Interior Technology Industry Association Board of Directors.

Tina Lange - Councilor, City of Kamloops 

 

Tina Lange is the General Manager and part owner of the Plaza Heritage Hotel. She was elected to City Council in 2005 and serves as the City Council representative on the Venture Kamloops Board of Directors. Tina started her professional life as a Program Director for the Kamloops YMCA and has had a variety of careers, including managing a diet centre, newspaper advertising consultant, and restaurateur. She holds a diploma in Leisure and Recreation Management from the University College of the Cariboo. She has been on many boards and involved with community groups throughout her life.

Ken Lepin, C.A., P.Mgr. has resided in Kamloops since 1964 and has been self-employed for 47 years as a Chartered Accountant (Sole Practitioner), president of a construction company, involved in commercial property development and rentals for 37 years which has given him considerable personal, hands-on experience dealing with the problems, challenges, dreams and frustrations of a small business owner.  Community service involvement has also been a large part of Ken's life as past Chairman - Chase Water Works District and member of various organizations including; City of Kamloops Board of Variance, Advisory Board - Business Care Program and past Chairman, Treasurer and board member of Kamloops United Church.

Donna Markin -  General Manager, Aberdeen Mall 

 

Donna Markin, General Manager of Aberdeen Mall, has 20 years of experience in the Shopping Centre industry.  Hired with Cadillac Fairview as a Marketing Manager in 1989 she quickly moved to the Operations side of the business where she was able to develop her skills in people management, strategic planning and business development.  Transferred with her family to Kamloops in 1999 she was heavily involved in the remerchandising of Aberdeen Mall and later when the shopping centre was sold to Primaris REIT she led the transition during the sale process.  A passionate advocate for business and retial in particular, Donna is optimistic that Kamloops is the best place to be doing business today, and looks forward to contributing to the ongoing success of the community.

Kate Calhoun has resided in Kamloops since 1988 and was a realtor for 11 years. For the past 7 years, she managed the operations of Wayside Printers but has since moved on and started her own consulting business. She has considerable knowledge in operating a small business and years of experience managing people and business development. Even with a family of 6, she still found the time to serve with the Kamloops YMCA-YWCA and sat on the board of directors for the Women of Distinction.

Anthony Muzzillo, Dealer Principal of Smith Chevrolet Cadillac and co-owner of Kamloops Hyundai, has 28 years of experience and training in the dealership operations. Since taking co-ownership of the Smith Chevrolet dealership in 1990, he carries on the dealership tradition of being an active participant in the daily operation and is a dedicated supporter of the Kamloops and area communities. Anthony has been a resident of Kamloops all his life and throughout the years he’s contributed and served with many non-profit organizations and events including; Kamloops West Rotary Club, the Friends of UCC university society (co-chair), and the BC Summer Games.

Corrine Serink - Owner, Ardeo Spa Salon 

 

 Corrine Serink, owner of Ardeo Spa Salon, has over 20 years experience in the salon industry. She opened her salon in 1998 and has since moved her salon from the original Sahali location to downtown Kamloops seven (7) years ago. In 2004, she expanded the salon’s services and branched into the spa industry. Corrine has extensive knowledge and experience in small business development, management, and marketing and strategic planning. She has resided in Kamloops since 1997 and is an advocate for supporting the local community. Over the years, her business has helped to fundraise and support a number of local and international charities including; the Kamloops YMCA-YWCA, Women’s Shelter, Strikes for Tykes, Food Bank, Royal Inland Hospital, and goats for Columbia.

Randy Diehl has a Masters Degree in Community Planning and over 30 years of employment in Municipal and Provincial Government Services. He has worked in such diverse fields as Social Housing, Crown Land Development, Resource Management Planning, Parks Planning and Urban Planning. He moved to the city in 1984 and worked for the Provincial Government to de-institutionalize the patients at Tranquille and then later worked as a BC Parks Planner for the Southern Interior.

He joined the City of Kamloops in 1989 as the City’s Senior Planner and then in 1992 was appointed to the position of Director of Community Planning and Development. In 2001, he was appointed to the position of Chief Administrative Officer.

Re-elected in December 2006, Chief Shane Gottfriedson is now serving his 2nd term as Chief of the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc. A former Ironworker with a strong entrepreneurial inclination, Shane Gottfriedson is the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc’s 12th Chief. He diligently seeks to create economic opportunities to benefit Tk’emlúps people in a meaningful, sustainable economic environment that creates jobs and partnerships that provide for economic growth for our region. The empowerment of the Tk’emlúps people is of the utmost importance to Chief Gottfriedson, and he believes that the work that he and the Tk’emlúps council does will truly benefit the community as a whole.
