There are over 50 agencies providing health care services in Kamloops, including two extended care hospitals, two health units, and five community health centers. Royal Inland Hospital is the major acute care facility for Kamloops and the referral hospital for the surrounding region. Kamloops is under the jurisdiction of the British Columbia Ambulance Service.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) provides policing services in Kamloops, with 140 members, plus two Community Policing offices, and a mountain bike squad. The Kamloops RCMP were the first in Canada to implement drug free zones around high schools, a program now offered across the country. Kamloops also has an anonymous Crime Stoppers program, and a Customer Care and Patrol team that provides a variety of services such as welcoming tourists, safety patrols, supporting local events, and assisting with rescue efforts.
Kamloops Fire and Rescue has 107 full time and 45 auxiliary fire suppression personnel operating from six stations. The department responds to fire suppression calls, injury accidents, rescues, dangerous goods/hazardous materials emergency responses, wild fires, water rescues and rope rescues. Emergencies outside city boundaries are handled by the provincially funded Kamloops Search and Rescue, which has over 30 trained volunteers.
