Welcome from the Mayor

MAyor Terry Lake

"Our Place in the Sun" is how Kamloopsians like to describe their thriving city known for its long hot summers and mild winters. Our fast growing community is renowned as the Tournament Capital of Canada so it's easy to see that an active lifestyle, that takes advantage of our beautiful natural setting, is what makes Kamloops so special.

Kamloops is home to over 100 sport tournaments each year and has hosted the Canada Games, the Brier, the World Curling Championships, the World Junior Hockey Championships and of course is home to the three-time Memorial Cup Champions, the Kamloops Blazers.

While organized team sports are a big part of the Kamloops scene, there are many other recreational opportunities like world-class golfing and skiing, hiking and fishing, not to mention mountain bike trails that are acclaimed around the planet. Whoever said life is not all fun and games did not live in Kamloops.

We do have a serious side, however, and are extremely proud of Thompson Rivers University (TRU), Canada's newest University that is home to over 9,500 on campus students, 13,000 distance education students, and approaching 1,000 international students. TRU and the City of Kamloops have a unique partnership that has resulted in top-notch sporting facilities that serve both the campus and the wider community and also has spurred the formation of international working agreements with communities in Japan and China.

The Kamloops economy is in high gear with low unemployment and record-building activities yet homes are still affordable. Why not come and see all that the Tournament Capital has to offer. You will soon want to reserve "Your Place in the Sun".
